A WACKY race across the Sahara will be the subject matter for next month?s business breakfast in Okehampton, organised by Motivation South West. Speaker at the breakfast will be Julian Nowill, divisional director of Brewin Dolphin Securities in Exeter, who will be talking about his experiences on the Plymouth-Dakar rally. While the famous Paris-Dakar rally is the ultimate test for man and machine, the Plymouth-Dakar version is a challenge for old bangers which have seen better days. Competing cars must cost less than £100 and once the race is under way, no outside support, mechanics or back up trucks are allowed during the 20-day trek across seven countries. In addition to competing in the race, Julian is also an organiser and will be taking those attending the breakfast through some of the more amusing moments of the rally. Julian has also appeared on the TV programme Top Gear in relation to Soviet cars and his trips to Estonia and Romania. The business breakfast takes place at Okehampton Conservative Club on June 8. Tickets cost £10 per person. For information, call Mike Davies on 01837 659233.
