Okehampton U16s 16

Sidmouth U16s 18

BAD weather forced Okehampton to play a top of the league clash against Sidmouth in a delayed kick off at Simmons Park.

The sides exchanged penalties in the first quarter before Sidmouth dominated field position using the wind to their advantage.

Both teams looked dangerous in possession but could not create an opening. Clarke made ground at outside centre but slow ball from rucks allowed the defence to realign.

A five-metre lineout led to Sidmouth scoring an uncoverted try to lead 8-3 at half-time.

A second penalty by Herrod-Taylor closed the gap before Sidmouth scored a second try with an excellent running line from the wing.

Equal possession for ten minutes saw committed tackling from both sides with Cox, Turner, Searle and Bolt working hard. Sidmouth then ran a penalty in the Okehampton 22, switching direction and scoring a soft try in the corner to lead 6-18.

Okehampton rallied in the last quarter and almost stole the match with tries from Cox and Bolt but it was too late for victory.

This week away to Ivybridge in the semi-final of the cup.
