MAKING their mark for heritage, the 3rd Tavistock Brownies have raised £30 to buy and sign a slate for St Eustachius’ Parish Church’s vestry roof appeal.
The girls, supported by their unit leader Sarah Maczugowska, are pictured with their slate which, with all others being sponsored and signed, will make up the new roof. As each slate is £25 to sponsor, the girls donated the rest to church funds.
To date the appeal has raised £14,000 — half the target the church is hoping to raise towards the £84,000 project. For the work more than 1,000 new slates are needed and as the building is Grade Two* Listed, they have to be identical to the original ones. Part of the cost is also being funded by The Friends of St Eustachius’.
Donors are being invited to sponsor a slate and inscribe it with their name, or those of family members or loved ones. Personal messages and designs can also be added and when finished, the new roof will form a time capsule within the church fabric.
A whole slate can be sponsored for £25 or a small section for just £5. Donors are being invited to be recorded in a book, which will be kept in the vestry.
To sign up and donate by visiting www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/vestryroof or visit the church between 10am and 4pm each weekday.
