FORMER Tavistock College student Lieutenant Andy Roberts is set to embark on an epic cycling challenge this week. Along with three other serving and former members of the Royal Navy, the group will set off from Durham tomorrow (Friday) and cycle across Europe. Three weeks later, the team will arrive and finish their journey at the Olympic ruins in Greece. The team, and Andy, who was born and raised in Tavistock, are aiming to raise money for 'Heel and Toe' a charity which provides therapies for children with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities. So far, Andy and his team mates have raised more than £10,000. The journey will take Andy and the team through Holland, Belgium, France, Italy and eventually finishing in the city of Olympia, Greece. The challenging route will consist of 2,250 miles with a total climb of 138, 500 feet. Despite being a relative newcomer to road cycling, Andy is an experienced mountain biker and has fully adapted to road cycling with ease. Andy, who has been training hard by cycling long distance rides, events and competitive races, said: 'This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Physically and mentally there will be highs and lows. However, I know myself and the team will dig deep and carry on. 'Heel and Toe is fantastic charity and well deserving of such an epic event.'
