A SMILE for every mile run or walked will come from those benefiting from the Comic Relief fun run in Tavistock on Sunday, March 17.
As part of the nationwide Red Nose day efforts, Tavistock Athletic Club has organised the event in which everybody of all ages and abilities are invited to join in — all for a great charity cause. The aim is to raise £5,000!
The event will take place on the running track at Tavistock College.
Keith Bowles from Tavistock Athletic Club said: 'The club hopes that everyone in the area can come along and raise some money, whatever the amount, and have a lot of fun doing it.
'Our photographer will be on hand and pictures of the best dressed will appear on the club's website, http://www.tavistockathletics.com">www.tavistockathletics.com which also has full details of the event.
'Tavistock AC is grateful to Tavistock College for providing the track free of charge and the parking and toilet facilities, and to Gibbs Kirby, Active Co. and the Times for their support.'
Participants will be responsible for collecting their own sponsorship and sending it to Comic Relief. A £1 fee per person is payable on entry to the track to cover the club's expenses, with the surplus passed on to the charity.
Just complete more than four laps of the track, which is one mile, by running, jogging, walking or pushing a buggy. Manual wheelchair users are also welcome.
There will be different 'waves' of competitors for various categories —walkers, pushers, joggers and runners of varying speeds — at various times through the morning.
The timetable will be as follows: First set of waves: 9.30am, track opens for warm up for sub 10 minute mile runners; 9.45am, sub 10 minute mile runners, aged 14 and over; 10am, over 10 minute. mile runners and joggers, 14 and over; 10.20am, child runners under 14 (those U8 to be accompanied by an adult); 10.50am, family wave including children who are not running and all walkers, excluding buggies and wheelchairs; 11.20am, family wave to include walkers, buggy pushers and manual wheelchairs.
Second wave: 11.50am, sub 10 minute milers; 12.05pm, over 10 minutes miler and joggers; 12.25pm, child runners U14s (U8s to be accompanied by an adult); 12.55pm, family wave including children who are not running and all walkers, excluding buggies and wheelchairs; 1.25pm, family wave to include walkers, buggy pushers and manual wheelchairs; 2pm Primary School Challenge runners; 2.30pm, extra waves as required (these may be merged).
Please bring your sponsor form to the track so that a club member can confirm you have completed the mile and make a note of your sponsorship.
Participants are asked to download a sponsor form from http://www.rednoseday.com/fundraise/ideas-and-tools">www.rednoseday.com/fundraise/ideas-and-tools or obtain one from the offices of Gibbs Kirby estate agents in Market Road, Tavistock or the Times office in Brook Street.
There will be a timing clock so that everyone can see how long it took them to complete a mile, but individuals will not be timed.
Fancy dress is optional, but Red Noses compulsory — and there will be a prize for the best dressed participant!
Red Noses and other merchandise are available from Oxfam in Tavistock, and Sainsburys and TK Maxx in Plymouth, or online at http://www.rednoseday.com/order-stuff">www.rednoseday.com/order-stuff
