A HUGE range of activities for volunteers is on offer at Dartmoor Railway in Okehampton ? and a special event is being held next month for existing volunteers and anyone else interested in finding out more about such opportunities. John Love, of Dartmoor Railway, said the social meeting would be an ideal way for people to get together and learn more about the railway and its aims. Activities in which people can get involved include acting as guards and drivers, helping out in the Meldon Visitor Centre and the station buffet and model shop, plus keeping the platform spick and span. John said there are about 28 regular volunteers at the railway ? but there was plenty of scope for more. During the social event, Stuart Farmer, general manager of the railway, will talk about the organisation and its aims. John said they were hoping to get plenty of input from those attending the meeting. Refreshments will be on offer during the meeting, which will take place on November 12.
