RUNNERS are being encouraged to get their entry forms in for the 13th Oke Croak race over Dartmoor on May 19 which this year will raise funds for the New Okehampton Hospital Appeal.
The race, which starts from Simmons Park, will follow its usual format requiring runners to decide their own course to take them over Oke Tor to Yes Tor — the highest point on Dartmoor — and back to the park.
This is a straight line distance of 10.25 miles but the fastest line is anything but a straight line unless competitors feel they must tackle East Mill Tor as well.
It is a race for experienced cross country and fell runners and, if visibility is poor, will require navigation skills.
Race entry costs £5, rising to £7 on the day. Changing facilities and toilets are available at the start and a bar is available at the finish. All finishers will receive a memento.
Readers of the Run Down Events Diary should be aware that the date has been changed.
For entry forms and details write to Peter Shalders, Hillside, Moretonhamptead, EX19 8AY or telephone 01837 851353.
