A SPLENDID quilt which was raffled to raise money for equipment at the new Okehampton Hospital has realised the magnificent sum of £755.
The idea of making the quilt came from Okehampton residents Jill Allin and Maggie Metters.
Maggie, who worked at the hospital in Okehampton for 30 years, said: ?We are both stitchers and we thought it would be a good way of raising money for the hospital.?
They were helped by friends and members of the Castle Quilters? group and the raffle took place in the Redvers Unit at the new hospital on Monday.
The lucky winner of the blue sampler quilt was Olive Donovan, with the winning ticket being drawn by the mayor of Okehampton, Cllr Christine Marsh.
l Specimens of stunning stitching by Okehampton members of the Quilters? Guild can be seen at an exhibition of work being held at Rosemoor Gardens near Torrington at the end of this month.
The mini quilts, all 15 inches square with a black border, include a wide variety of techniques, designs and colours providing a colourful display when hung together.
The exhibition opens to the public on July 16 from 10am until 5pm, finishing on July 28.
A larger quilted panel, depicting the winter garden at Rosemoor, is being raffled and tickets will be on sale during the exhibition.
