Mary Tavy 8 Gerrans 1 ALTHOUGH the score indicates an easy win for promotion contenders Mary Tavy, before the match the only real question pending was just how much of a boost to their goal difference would the outcome of this fixture make. Taking things into consideration, the pitch, the weather and such like, Tavy on the whole will probably not be too dissatisfied with the result . It was not easy going, however as Gerrans got bodies behind the ball and continually frustrated the Tavy strikers by defending in large numbers forcing them into uncharacteristic errors. James Philpott finally opened the scoring driving in a low shot past the outstretched keeper. But then a wonder strike from in excess of 40 yards which caught everyone off guard gave Gerrans a shock equaliser. Ian Hunter also went close for Tavy striding forward and testing the keeper from distance before Mark Piper, fresh back from his honeymoon, celebrated his first of a hat-trick. His second goal was a real beauty, as he picked his spot and casually placed the ball into the top corner from outside the box. Philpott added his second from close in and Ben Stephens and James Coole grabbed one apiece to complete the rout. On reflection however those watching will remember this match for two vital facts, Gerrans by far scored the best goal of the game and they played with a young lad of 14 between the posts who denied Tavy time after time and will have this match etched in his memory for some time to come.
