ONE of the South West's largest community arts events recently held an exhibition to drum up support and celebrate their 25th anniversary with a bang. Despite atrocious weather, members of the public descended upon Sticklepath Village Hall recently to witness at first hand the work that goes into organising the Sticklepath Fireshow. The fireshow committee gave advice and secrets on what it takes to devise the ever original storylines, make the puppets, sew the costumes and build the set. Examples of the puppets and costumes, all hand- made with the help of children the week before the fireshow, were on display. The main objectives of the fireshow are to encourage a wide participation by the community in all areas relating to the staging of the event and to advance the skills and training of the people, particularly children, involved in the activities. After the exhibition an annual meeting was held where a new committee, including members from across the surrounding areas, was sworn in. There are still vacancies on the committee and anyone who would like to be involved in the fireshow in any way should visit http://www.sticklepathfireshow.org">www.sticklepathfireshow.org for further details.
