FARMERS, landowners and contractors are invited to enter for the Devon Hedge Competition.
The competition has two classes: Best Laid Hedge ? for the hedge laid during the winter of 2003/2004 ? and Best Stone-Faced Hedgebank Restoration ? which must have been restored during 2003/4.
Tom Hynes of the Devon Hedge Group said farmers carried out a lot of good work managing hedges in Devon.
?Hedges are important, not only for agriculture but for wildlife and the landscape as well,? he said.
?The competition aims to reward those that put extra effort into restoring hedges, whether it be through steeping or through repairing stone-faced hedges.?
Entries should include photographs, preferably before and after, in order to help judges draw up a shortlist of hedges to visit. There are three prizes in each class: £200, £100 and £50.
The competition is run jointly by the Devon Hedge Group and the Devon Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group and the closing date is March 31.
