GET your walking boots at the ready for the 42nd Abbots Way walk across Dartmoor on October 3.
This 26-mile fundraising event, organised by the Tavistock and District Youth Network, starts at Buckfast Abbey at 8am and follows the ancient Abbots Way across the moor, via Princetown to Tavistock.
The route will be checkpointed by Ashburton, Plymouth and Tavistock sections of the Dartmoor Rescue Group and then from Princetown to Tavistock by Tavistock Radio Club.
First aid cover is being provided by the Red Cross and the organisers are also arranging two minibuses as safety cover to pick up any fallouts.
Walkers will finish at Tavistock College where a welcome pasty and soft or hot drink will await them. Individual and team certificates will be given to everyone who completes the challenge.
Entries have to have a minimum of two team members and the cost is £4.50 a head with all proceeds going to local youth organisations.
In the past funds have helped set up the forerunner to Youthwize in Tavistock, transport subsidy for summer camps, residential weekends and grants for brass band training.
The closing date for entries is September 17 and applications should be made to the Youth Office, Tavistock College, Crowndale Road, Tavistock, PL19 8DD or telephone 01822 613522.
