the culmination and finale of the Kelly Prep Poetry Slam for Years 4 and 5 and a selection of local primary schools took place this week.

Parents from all the schools were invited to celebrate a cacophony of poetic delights.

Children were asked in groups to write poems which would then be transformed into poetic performances with tone of voice, gestures and actions, eye contact and, above all, expression.

They were asked to follow a structure, including a simile, a metaphor, a question and a descriptive phrase, but the rest was left up to their vivid imaginations and explosive vocabulary.

The range of topics included 'Storms','Water','Darkness','Ice-cream','The Beach' and the very popular subject of 'Homework'!
