CHILDREN from North Tawton Primary School recently learned all about recycling as part of the Global Action Plan Waste Action Day. The different types of gases found at waste land centres and how having too much of one and not enough of the other is causing global warming, were explained to the pupils. Afterwards, they put on their gloves and began to sort through all the rubbish the school produced in one day. They separated it into different sections, including white paper, compost and plastic. Finally, it was weighed to see which was the heaviest bag — it turned out to be white paper. At the end of the workshop, children saw products which they could make out of recyclables, including photo frames, pencils, pens and coasters. The school is now thinking of ways to reduce the amount of rubbish by discussing it with the school council and the rest of the school for ideas. Pupil and school councillor Sophie Bending said: 'North Tawton's primary's children who did this feel that they now know more about global warming and now can do something to help.'
