EXBOURNE Primary School had fun this month entering Devon County Council's 'Do it for Devon' schools' carbon footprint pledge competition. The children all came up with a list of 'pledges' to help reduce the school's carbon footprint — short, simple, behavioural changes like turning off computers and TVs when not in use or setting up a 'walking bus' to school. They then created 'feet' in whatever exciting and artistic way they could, to decorate an enormous A1 sheet of paper with 'footprints of determination'. Head teacher Celia West said: 'Our school is already committed to recycling as much as possible, and is in the process of acquiring a composting bin. We fully support the need for every individual to commit to making a difference to global warming and we are determined to do our bit within the school. 'The children have had a wonderful time producing this superb poster and we very much hope we have a chance of winning the competition!' The two winning schools will each receive a free day out for up to 50 pupils at a leading Devon attraction. The competition is judged this week — so Exbourne is crossing its fingers and toes.
