villagers in Lifton are pulling together to organise a Jubilee tug-of-war over the bank holiday weekend.

At the village fun day, which this year has a jubilee theme, teams are being invited to challenge each other in a test of strength and technique.

Bill Glen, who has been 'roped in' as tug-of-war co-ordinator, said: 'Last year's event was a huge success and was won by the Lifton Hall team. I am sure that there are other groups who could take on this challenge and enter a team of six — one person for each decade of Her Majesty's reign, and of course, there must be at least one female in each team.'

The contest is at the recreation field on Sunday, June 3 at 5.30pm and will cost £6 to enter. There will be a shield for the winning team as well as a drink.
