A YELVERTON tourism group has won grants worth more than £5,000.

'Drake's Dartmoor' was formed in January and has almost 30 members, including accommodation providers, pubs, tourist attractions and local interest groups.

The grants come from the Devon and West Somerset Key Fund, which is giving £4,300 to the group, and West Devon Borough Council, which is pledging £1,000.

The money will be used to foster business initiatives in the area in an attempt to persuade people back onto the western edge of the moor.

Chairman David Richards said their new website would soon be up and running. 'The committee is discussing plans for the next steps forward, such as a leaflet campaign detailing the many attractions of Drake's Dartmoor.'

The support from the two bodies was absolutely vital to enable them to launch their campaign, he added.
