HEAVY rain is causing flooding to areas of Tavistock tonight.

The Environment Agency (EA) issued a flood warning earlier this evening. It said flooding from the River Tavy was expected during tonight and Friday morning and residents of properties in the low lying areas around Stannary Bridge Road, Parkwood Road, Market Road, Dolvin Road, Abbey Walk, Pixon Lane have been asked to move their belongings upstairs.

The EA said: ’Tavistock will start to flood first from around 9.30pm on Thursday. River levels are forecast to be at their highest around midnight and could remain high for several hours afterwards.

’Flood waters may be deep and fast flowing, and roads could form flow routes. Residents are strongly urged to take action now.’

EA staff are out in the area and will be assisting the emergency services and council.
