UNION flags were waving in Tavistock at Stannary Brass Band's Proms concert held in the Methodist Church on October 6.

The large audience, some in fancy dress, joined in enthusiastically with the singing and were entertained by band patron, Angela Rippon. Representatives from Ward and Chowen, who sponsored the event, sat with civic dignitaries to enjoy the concert.

The band's new CD, 'A Touch of Brass', was on sale for the first time and is available at other band events or by telephoning 01822 854888.

Loveny Male Voice Choir performed a wide range of songs from around the world and some poignant hymns. Rosemary Turner sang with both the choir and the band.

Refreshments were provided by Tavistock Methodist Church.

Stephen Gray, chairman of the band, said: 'It was wonderful to see so many people in the audience. The atmosphere was terrific and I would like to thank all the people who made such kind comments. Thanks are also due to TASS who provided transport.'

Stannary Brass Band and Angela Rippon can be seen again on December 15 at 7.30pm at St Eustachius Church at a concert in aid of Tavistock Stroke Association.
