PAUL Batten from Okehampton Smallbore Club has came 4th in the National Air-rifle Competition final run by ammunition manufacturers Eley.

During the summer, two postal stages of the competition were held countrywide with a percentage of shooters being eliminated from these, leaving eight eligible to shoot in the final stage at Bisley last weekend.

After the first two stages, Paul was in eighth position in the competition having scored 382 out of a possible 400 in the second stage.

The final was a longer course of fire, 60 shots giving a possible score of 600 to be achieved, and Paul greatly improved his position in this last stage, firing 574 and moving up from eighth to fourth place. He received a beautiful Edinburgh Crystal tumbler as his prize.
