THE second mayoral community breakfast will see the principal of Okehampton College as its guest speaker.
Daryll Chapman has been principal of the college since 2006. In recent years ithas federated with four local primary school and more recently has become a co-operative trust school.
During Mr Chapman's tenure, the school's examination results have continuously improved. In this year's GCSE results, the college achieved a 71% pass rate of students gaining the 'gold standard' of five A* to C grades, including English and maths. When the gold standard benchmark was measured in 2006, the college's performance was 36%. This year's A2 and AS results were also very strong, with a 100% pass rate at A2 level and 93% at AS level.
The college has also had environmental successes in recent years, winning a clutch of prestigious prizes for renewable energy strategies. It has reduced its spending on energy to £0 a year thanks to a combination of reducing usage and renewable energy schemes.
The breakfasts are open to anyone to come and network with others in the community. This is the second such breakfast, with the first attracting 35 people in September. PC Andy Oliver, gave an account of what is happening in the area.
The next breakfast is on Wednesday, November 13 at the White Hart Hotel. It will start at 8am and cost £7 per person. Each breakfast includes a full English breakfast. It is intended a small profit will be made to support the mayor's chosen charities for 2013/14 which are Get Changed Theatre Company and Tor Support Services.
Payment must be made by Friday, November 8, for those wishing to attend, to the town hall in cash or cheque payable to: 'Okehampton Town Council – Mayor's Account'. Please ensure you leave your name and contact number with your payment.
