TAVISTOCK College students took on the role of referees at a football tournament for local primary schools – helping the children gain a passion for sport.

The Football Festival, which took place at Bickleigh Down and Gulworthy Primary Schools, proved a huge success with both pupils and their parents thoroughly enjoying the competition.

Tavistock College's school sports co-ordinator Holly Rippon said: 'It was a really good day. All the primary pupils had a great time and lots of parents came along to support them.

'The event would not have been able to go ahead without the help of my six referees, Tavistock College students Aaron Northmore, Ryan Moorhead, Matt Davidson, Jordan Eales, Jamie Stephens and Martin Hoar.

'They were a credit to the college, behaving in a very professional manner with the primary students and acting as a fantastic group of role models.'

Bickleigh Down hosted the morning event for large schools, while Gulworthy held the afternoon festival for smaller primaries.

In the morning, Bickleigh Down A Team emerged victorious in the premiership, closely followed by St Andrew's.

The championship was won by Bickleigh Down B Team, with Tavistock in second.

The afternoon saw Milton Abbot crowned winners, followed by Horrabridge A Team.
