AN eagle-eyed reader of the Times has solved the mystery of a recent picture published in our ‘Those Were the Days’ feature.

The picture published in the July 30 edition, which was mysteriously captioned ‘ambulance presentation’, has been revealed to be a photo of ambulanceman John Hubber presenting a cheque for £50 on behalf of the Devon Ambulance Service Okehampton Station to the chairman of the Tamar Emergency Doctors Scheme, Dr Brian Steggles.

The presentation was made at the Pretoria Hotel in Okehampton.

Keen-eyed reader JC Twomey spotted the picture and contacted the Times to explain its history.

Mr Twomey is one of the gentleman in the picture, which was originally published in the Times on September 14, 1979.
