PRAISING HM Dartmoor Prison for its recent inspection is West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox. Mr Cox said: ?I am very pleased that the chief inspector of prisons has acknowledged the substantial progress that has been made at Dartmoor Prison. ?Having recently visited the prison with the chairman of the Independent Monitoring Board, Jackie Sweet, I saw for myself the marked improvements and the enhanced opportunities which now exist at the prison for work and rehabilitation and the considerable success, in particular, of the resettlement unit.? The report said Princetown Prison has moved on leaps and bounds since a diminishing report in 2001 described the prison as being an ?outdated culture of over-control and disrespect for prisoners?. In the report out on June 28, 2006 the prison was said to have a regime that has shed its old image and focused on the welfare and future prospects of its inmates.
