Wadebridge Colts 12 Tavistock Colts 17 TAVISTOCK Colts stretched their winning streak to three games with a remarkable win as the squad left with only 12 players. Early pressure gained rewards with James Lawson powering through. Lack of experienced props meant the scrums had to be unopposed for safety reasons, but this only served to give the pack the incentive to save their energy for open play, well led by skipper Wheatley. Tim Child at loose head prop was a constant thorn in the side of his opponents, and deserved his man-of-the-match nomination of the season. Tom Friend tackled and ran all game and dispossessed attackers on six occasions in that instant after the tackle but before the ruck had formed. Centre Smerdon constantly broke the gain line with good service from stand-off Dan Smith, and ran in the second try. A lapse of concentration saw Wadebridge drive over from a set scrum to put the score at 10-5 at half-time. The second half began with the home side touching down on the left wing and converting to take the lead. But the game belonged to Tavistock with long periods spent in the Wadebridge half. Will Branfield broke from a well set up ruck. Scrum half Alex Moy drove hard into the tackle to take the ball from Branfield and scampered over to take the lead, as well as converting his own try. Jim Whiteford tackled well in his first game of the season. Thompson, out of position at flanker, was aggressive in the tackle, earning one sin-binning for over-exuberance against a second row twice his size. Bolt showed good reactions to the loose ball and enjoyed his taste of forward play. Despite being a weaker team than usual, this side played the best rugby of the season.
