A TEAM of street cleaners worked overnight to clear up almost two and a half tonnes of rubbish in Tavistock following the Goose Fair festivities last Wednesday.
As the thousands of fairgoers left the town, a team of West Devon Borough Council contract workers moved in early next morning to clean up in the rain.
It took 26 street cleaners and council officers just five hours to remove rubbish from the streets, park and residential gardens in the centre of town.
Despite the weather conditions, and time pressure to get the streets gleaming by dawn, more than one tonne of waste was recycled.
On Goose Fair day itself, visitors were encouraged to recycle their rubbish in bins provided and officers worked hard to ensure that traffic flowed freely with minimum disruption for residents and visitors.
