THE post box in Callington Road in Tavistock is to be replaced by mid to late August, a spokesperson for Royal Mail has stated. A letter from a reader in last week's Times queried the removal of the box and the fact that although the wall had been rebuilt the post box had not been replaced. In reply, Royal Mail collections support manager Andy Bennett said the box needed to be removed as the wall housing it was crumbling and a rebuild was needed. 'The owner of the wall specifically requested that we didn't situate the box back in the new wall,' Mr Bennett said. The department surveyed the area on June 11 to identify a new suitable location for a post box on a pedestal. It will be fitted by mid to late August, slightly into Uplands, near the junction with Callington Road, Mr Bennett said. They had to wait for replies from the council highways department and other utility firms before they could proceed. Mr Bennett apologised for the temporary inconvenience but assured everyone the facility would be replaced.
