Tavistock 1st XV 6

Ilfracombe 1st XV 23

TAVISTOCK had another league disaster in their game at Ilfracombe on Sunday.

After such a promising performance against Bude last week it seems extraordinary that Tavistock should suffer such a defeat.

Kevin Georgel put Tavistock ahead with a penalty in the opening minutes but Ilfracombe replied with a penalty almost immediately. Georgel slotted another soon after, which Ilfracombe again matched.

Sloppy handling and poor tackling allowed Ilfracombe unnecessary possession and territory. The home side coped better with the slippery and windy conditions and ran in three soft tries.

Mark Baker and Mike Anderson put in some good tackling, one joint effort preventing an Ilfracombe player from grounding the ball over the line and a certain try. Jim Flint showed flare on the flank and the team as a whole lifted their performance in the last ten minutes.

The improved effort, in the end, came too late and Tavistock never really overcame the disruption of a Sunday game and a long coach journey, factors which players at their level cannot afford to succumb to.

If anyone is interested in joining Tavistock RFC they are welcome to join at training at the club at 7pm Tuesdays and Thursdays or may phone Paul Greenhill the club captain on 01822 616792.
