EXTRA policing in Callington is likely to be extended following a positive response. The town council requested extra officers at weekends over the festive period because of anti-social behaviour in the town. Two additional officers have been on patrol during December with the town council footing the bill of £554. At its meeting last week, councillors reported that the town had been quieter and high visability policing was likely to be a factor. ?The police have been seen a lot around the town, in the pubs, the social club and around the park and it has been very quiet in the town,? said Cllr Chris Thomas. ?Having said that, the weather has been cold and the Old Clink pub is still closed so that will have made a difference. I would like the police officers to be around when the Old Clink opens up again.? Cllr Gist said it was a little early to say whether the move had been successful but they would know more after the Christmas/ New Year week. The Old Clink, which has been closed for several months, was due to open again on December 17 after a major revamp with a new landlord. However, work has taken longer than planned and the opening has been delayed to the New Year. Extending the extra police cover will discussed by the council on January 3.
