FOLLOWING on from last year's success, Tavistock Town Band presents its annual 'Proms' concert in Tavistock Town Hall at 7.30pm on Friday September 28.

Tavistock Town Band has been re-born in the form of a successful brass ensemble — Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble.

Seven members of the previous brass band have kept the flag flying and have already played concerts all over the South West.

The group has had a busy summer playing a full and varied programme, with pieces ranging from fanfares to smooth and lilting solos for flugelhorn and euphonium and even German um-pah music.

The musicians can often be found playing in the town bandstand in the park on a Sunday afternoon, and it is this that illustrates the true objective of the new group.

'Our aim is to present a wide and varied programme of music in the town and to represent the town when playing away from the area.

As part of this plan we have worked hard to ensure that we continue our past success and present an annual concert in the popular format of 'Last Night of the Proms,' says Chris Northey, press officer, Tavistock Town Band (TUBES).

'This year we are pleased to present West of England area champions Saltash Town Band, together with Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensembles TUBES, soprano soloist Kate Walker and Tavistock Musical Theatre Company.'

Tickets are now on sale from Shambles, West Street, Tavistock — adults £5, children £3, which is excellent value for a full evening of varied musical entertainment.

Again, this year's concert promises to be a feast of popular classics in addition to the usual rousing finale of Pomp and Circumstance March No 1, Rule Britannia, Sea Songs and Jerusalem.

Come wave a flag and enter into the spirit by singing and enjoying what promises to be a truly patriotic celebration of good music and local talent!
