BLUE skies, warm sunshine and a golf course in superb condition enticed 180 members of Tavistock Golf Club to play in the President's Day Stableford.

Club president Dennis Greening was delighted with the turn out.  He said: 'This is the highest number of players I think we have ever had taking part — men, ladies and juniors — a wonderful cross section of club members.'

There was some excellent scoring with Jim Hunter topping the men's table with 44points and Gary Davies a close second with 43pts. Both with 42 pts were Bob Small and Mike Brown.  Lyn Swift was the leading lady with 40pts, second Rachael Newphrey with 39pts and in third place was Wendy George on 36pts.

The juniors, once again, played some superb golf with Will Stenhouse scoring 40 pts and Sam Jessop 36 pts.  Emmy Hoyte led the girls with 36 pts and Bridie Sampson close behind with 35 pts. Prizes, all awarded by the president for the top players in each section, will be presented at their presentation night in November.

The president was very pleased that the collection for ShelterBox in aid of the Pakistan Floods raised the £360, which he said was typical of the generosity of club members.

The Tavistock Rotary Club's John Bacon accepted the cheque, which will be passed to emergency relief charity ShelterBox.
