WEIR Quay Sailing Club has been holding the second race of their new spring series in bright, sunny weather with a southerly wind force 3 to 4 and gusting to 5.

The hour-long race took place over a triangular course on the River Tamar opposite the clubhouse and started at 11.45am with three boats competing.

The Wayfarer 'Popple' and Mirror 'Mary Ann' had a good start with Popple leading from the start, being the fastest boat and indulging in some brisk sailing.

Mary Ann, the Mirror, and National 12 'Legless' battled it out for the first mark with Legless leading as gusts proved too strong, leaving the Mirror to win overall on handicap.

1, Wayfarer 'Popple', Rob Brereton; 2, Mirror 'Mary Ann', Paul Radgick; 3 National 12 'Legless', Alan Seaward.
