POLICE are keen to remind dog owners in West Devon about the law in relation to walking dogs.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times unless you are certain the dog will respond immediately to commands. For example, if you are walking your dog, you must be sure that your dog will come to heel when called — especially if there is another dog or person around. If not, the dog is not under control and you are liable in law.
An incident took place in Clearbrook on Tuesday, December 10 at 10.30am where a lady and her dog were attacked by another dog.
The lady was walking her dog on the lead when another lady and her dog approached. The second dog was off the lead and proceeded to attack the first, biting it numerous times. When the lady holding the lead was pulled over, she was bitten several times by the dog off the lead.
The lady, who was the victim of this incident, said that the lady was apologetic but had no control over her dog.
The dog that attacked was described as a brown and black alsation/collie cross. The lady walking it was described as white, mid-fifties, of average build and with dark brown shoulder length hair that was slightly wavy. She may wear glasses and was wearing walking clothes.
• If anyone knows who this lady is, contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number JT/13/1666.
