WEST Devon police officers are getting on their bikes to keep a better eye on the community. The officers have been kitted out with cycling gear and two sponsored bikes courtesy of Devon Cycle Hire at Sourton. The bikes will be used mostly by community support officers in Okehampton town centre, including the park, as well as in Hatherleigh, North Tawton, and surrounding villages. Neighbourhood team leader Sgt Matt Longman said: ?Successful neighbourhood policing relies heavily on contact with our local communities. The bikes will assist our community support officers to cover as large an area as possible without the barriers that patrolling in vehicles sometimes provides.? West Devon police is always looking at new ways for people within the community to help them make it a safer place to live. ?We are very grateful to Devon Cycle Hire for their support,?Sgt Longman said.
