A 16-YEAR-OLD Okehampton girl was indecently propositioned by a man in a car as she walked home from her part-time job in the town. The girl was walking up Upcott Hill at 3.55pm on Thursday March 29 when a man in a white Peugeot hatchback pulled over and asked her to get into his car. When she refused, he repeated the request more forcefully and proposed she take part in sexual activities with him. The girl was shaken and upset and ran away from the scene. PC Di Maguire at Okehampton Police Station said the event is very worrying given the time of year, when more young women will soon be out in the evenings and at weekends. She urged girls in the town to avoid talking to any strangers and to report any suspicious incidents. Anyone who might have seen the man in the white hatchback, or have information relating to his identity should contact the station, quoting crime reference number JO/07/300.
