POLICE are seeking information after an increase in fly-tipping in West Devon over the last two years, with almost 200 fridges and freezers dumped in a secluded spot just off the A30.

Records show that since February 2009, at least 168 fridges have been dumped off the A30 near the Broadwoodwidger turning.

PCSO Dave Chapple said: 'We think it's got to be a tipper-size lorry. They may be from a shop or a shop is taking money to take the fridges to a tip but just dumping them and keeping the money.'

PCSO Chapple said a red fridge was found among the pile, and because it is uncommon for a fridge to be red, he is hoping someone may have some information about it.

He said: 'We're hoping it might jog someone's memory. West Devon Borough Council and the Environment Agency are now involved.

'Every twenty fridges that are dumped costs the tax payer £400.'

Anyone who may have seen anything or has any information regarding this, is asked to contact Tavistock Police Station.
