DETECTIVES are investigating a robbery that took place in Bedford Square, Tavistock, at about 4.10am on Saturday October 22. A man in his early 20s had been out drinking all night and was waiting for a taxi when he was approached by two men who attacked him, stealing his wallet and leaving him with a fractured cheekbone.

The victim was taken by surprise and assaulted without any warning. He had quite a lot of money in his wallet and it may be he was seen with the money earlier or that someone told the offenders he had it with him.

One man has been arrested and released on police bail while forensic enquiries are carried out. Police are looking for another man but are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident, or who may have been in the area at that time and may have seen anyone or anything.

Please contact DC Leanne Wear on 08452 777444, quoting crime reference JT/11/1223.

Police say robbery is very rare in the town, but this is the second in a relatively short period. The other happened at the end of August when two men attacked a woman at the bottom of Rocky Hill.

Improvements have been made to the lighting in that area and regular police patrols have targeted it since. At this time no definite link is being drawn between the two incidents.
