POLICE are appealing for anyone in Okehampton who may have witnessed a potential assault on a female police officer. On Saturday, February 19, at 11.15pm, a female police officer was involved in the arrest of a man who was believed to have smashed a window in Red Lion Yard, Okehampton. Members of the public had detained the man who was at this point on the ground. While the police officer was handcuffing the man, another man walked up behind her and raised a piece of wood in an action that made a member of the public think he was about to strike the officer. The member of the public shouted in order to warn the officer and the man walked off. The officer was not aware of what had happened until the next day. The police would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Red Lion Yard that night and witnessed what took place. If you saw anything, contact Okehampton Police on 08452 777444.
