Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Division Two Menheniot 1 Lamerton 3 LAMERTON picked up a valuable three points on a wet evening game at Menheniot. They started slowly and it was the home side who came closest early on with striker Phil Screech looking dangerous. The deadlock was broken after half an hour when Kev Swift neatly flicked a ball across the area and Paul Cowling hit a volley which was then helped into the net by a Menheniot defender. A second goal soon followed when Dan Healy latched onto a Cowling pass and hammered the ball in from the edge of the area. The second half saw Lamerton get on top ? and it was against the run of play when Menheniot were awarded a penalty which was duly converted. The all important third goal came when a Lee Wickett free kick was mishandled by the keeper, who had been excellent for most of the game, and Cowling helped the ball over the line. Bodmin Trophies Duchy League Division Two Newmoor 0 Lamerton 4 LAMERTON clinched promotion by beating Newmoor for the second time in a week. After an even first twenty minutes the deadlock was broken when from a quick corner, Steve Roast crossed for Dave Byworth to fire in via the underside of the bar. The lead was doubled within five minutes when Steve Gibbings? persistence saw him dispossess a defender in the box and tap in. It was then fairly comfortable for Lamerton as they pressed forward. The third goal came when Kev Swift miskicked a ball in the box and fortunately had enough chalk on the end of his toe to enable the ball to trickle past a bemused keeper. He wasn?t as lucky five minutes later when, from an even better position, the ball stuck under his feet to the delight of the spectators. The best goal came in the final minute when Dan Healy swept in a Paul Cowling cross. This Saturday home to Delabole in the league. Kick off 2.30pm.
