POST Office Ltd confirmed this week that it hoped to restore a post office service to Calstock in the new year.

Calstock Post Office closed in September following the resignation of sub-postmaster Avron Levine, who said it was no longer viable to run the service.

Several meetings were held between Calstock Parish Council and Post Office Ltd and other interested parties to try and find a solution and it was revealed this week that the post office hoped to provide a part-time service in Calstock Village Hall.

A spokesperson for Post Office Ltd said: 'Anything we do will be subject to consultation. We are looking at a hosted service in the village hall which means a sub postmaster from an existing branch will come and run a couple of sessions each week.

'Hopefully we will get a post office service restored in Calstock in the new year.'
