A PLYMOUTH businessman has bought Sheepstor following its failure to sell at auction on July 2.

Estate agents Symonds and Sampson confirmed this week that a deal had been struck after the auction in Yeovil where the tor and 125 acres of moorland was listed with a guide price of £100,000.

John White Hamilton from Symonds and Sampson said a lot of people had stayed away from the auction because there was speculation that Sir Paul McCartney was interested in buying Sheepstor.

?Local people were put off by report in the regional press that this extremely rich man may be coming down to bid,? he said.

?There was no former Beatle in sight but people will believe what they read in the newspapers.?

The estate agent said the new owner wanted to keep Sheepstor very much as it was and there was no indication he would be exercising the shooting rights on the land.

?He wants to have it and protect it,? said Mr White Hamilton.
