THE quarter-finals of the annual Plumb Centre South West of England foursomes competition was played at Yelverton Golf Club after a two-week delay due to the frost.

Staddon Heights' secretary, Tim Aggett, and his partner Rob Sandford lost to Yelverton pair Paul Isaac and Peter Franklin; the match was all square after 18 holes, but the home pair pulled through with a net birdie on the 19th. In the second match the last ladies' pair, Jane Wright (Staddon) and Bev Ruth (Tavistock) were edged out on the last hole by Colin Gentry (Tavistock) and Wayne Tulley (Elfordleigh).

One of the surviving professionals, David Jeffs received a walk-over, as one of his opponents was ill; this guaranteed David the £1,000 prize for the last professional in the competition.

The other professional, Ian Parker (RND), with partner Jamie Mullen, had to give 10 shots to their opponents George Frude and Chris Gunn (Yelverton), who ran out comfortable winners 3 and 2.

In the semi-finals, to be played on Sunday, they will take on another professional, David Jeffs (Libbaton), playing with his mother, Margaret. In the other semi Tulley and Gentry will meet the Yelverton pairing of Paul Isaac and Peter Franklin, so there could be an all-Yelverton final!

In the plate competition James Holt and Anthony Bradley (Yelverton), and James Warwick and Simon Knapman (Churston), will play each other in the semi-finals.

In other plate matches Holsworthy pro Alan Johnston and his partner Alex Lock beat Staddon's Roger Ford and Lee Carpenter 4 and 2. In the final match Yelverton players Dave Hyslop and Tom Belton beat the Wrangaton pairing of Bryant and McEwen.
