TOP quality accoustic music is making its way to Tavistock Town Hall. Promoted by an enthusiastic group of enthusiasts in West Devon called TFolk the aim is to provide a season of talented acoustic/folk musicians to play on a regular basis in the newly equipped venue. The season starts with Sherburn, Bartley and Scott?s Last Night?s Fun on Sunday September 18. Irish Music Magazine describes them as ?the most exciting and entertaining traditional Irish Band in England?. Their new album, Tempered, was recently voted Album of the Month by Mojo magazine. Future acts include Hazel O?Connor featuring Cormac de Barra (Irish harp) and Ruari de Barra (guitar) on October 16 with The Hidden Heart Tour. Hazel has a huge following and her acoustic show was the overwhelming hit of the Edinburgh Festival and this year?s Celtic Connections in Glasgow. ?O?Connor is obviously gong back to the folk origins of her balladry and it?s certainly working? said a critic on the Irish Times. On November 8 the amazing Craobh Rua visit Tavistock Town Hall. Based in Belfast this exciting four-piece take a refreshing, unpretentious and uncommonly skilled run at some of the greatest music in the world. Craobh Rua play Irish traditional music from the heart, a rich sound, acoustic driven this is traditional Celtic fair at its finest, mixing rousing jigs, reels and polkas with tender ballads and airs. Impeccable musicians together, they play uillean pipes, flute, tin whistles, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, mand0lin, bouzouki and guitar in support of their wonderful vocals. They have five albums to date worldwide, their current offering being aptly entitled If Ida Been Here Ida Been There. Mainline Times Philadelphia, USA, said ?Craobh Rua gained momentum like a runaway freight train and had young and old cheering and dancing.? This band is not to be missed. Looking to 2006 TFolk are hoping to book The Catherine Tickell Band for a date in but this is to be confirmed.
