CAR drivers in Okehampton are being urged to take up the chance of a stress-free journey to work by getting on the bus.
Bus-user Liz Batson said the bus was an extremely valuable service but the seven people who currently travelled on it could not subsidise it for much longer.
'We do not know what to do,' she said. 'Unless we get some more passengers very soon the service will be withdrawn because it is running at a loss.'
The minibus is provided by Carmel Coaches of Northlew and was, until recently, subsidised by Western National because it used to take the overflow of passengers from its own buses. But the coach company has since provided extra services and withdrawn its support from the Exeter Express.
Liz Batson said she had been travelling on the bus almost since the beginning and was very pleased with the service.
'I did not know how it would work because I have been a car driver for years,' she said.
'But it has got me out of my car and I do not have the stress that comes with driving to and from work let alone the expense.'
She said working in the city centre she would have to pay parking fees of £3.50 a day.
'It is definitely cheaper to get the bus — the return fare on the bus is £4 and is probably less than the cost of petrol alone,' she said.
The bus takes just over half an hour to get to Exeter arriving in Exeter just after 8am and leaves Exeter again at 5.10pm.
Mrs Batson said the alternative for the commuters was to car share but that would not accommodate everyone.
One of the benefits of having the bus was that people without cars could get to work easily.
She is urging people who work in Exeter to give her a call to find out more about the bus.
'This is a brilliant service and we don't want to lose it,' she added.
