BELSTONE?S season concluded with a visit to Tedburn St Mary for a Buckley Cup game last Sunday. Tedburn were the victors winning the match by 43 runs.
The match was due to be played at Rew Meadow but, because of steady drizzle and a wet outfield, was relocated to Tedburn at the last minute.
This game would decide the winner of the Buckley Cup with Tedburn St Mary needing 14 points out of a possible 15 to finish ahead of Yeoford.
Tedburn won the toss and decided to bat against a 9 man Belstone team. Excellent bowling by Aidan Easterbrook (4-0-10-2) and Pete Gross (4-0-15-1) left the home team on 44/4 after 10 overs.
However, fine batting by Matt Wood (41) and Nick Rowe (26) increased the run rate in dramatic fashion with Tedburn finishing on 146/7 after their 20 overs. The Belstone team acquitted themselves well in the field effecting a total of three run outs.
Belstone began their reply strongly and after 10 overs were 65/3. The visitors then lost four quick wickets as the Tedburn bowlers shared the dismissals between them. This left Belstone on 72/7 after 15 overs with only Wayne Pearce (45) and Simon Tremain (15) to bat out the final five overs to deny the home team another wicket and more importantly the point they required to take the Buckley Cup.
After some anxious moments they survived taking the score along to 103 and leaving Yeoford and Tedburn St Mary level on points in the final Buckley Cup standings.
