A community orchestra is seeking new players to blow their trumpets for their annual Christmas event in Hatherleigh with its Muppet and Raymond Briggs’ ‘The Snowman’ themes.
The orchestra, comprising Hatherleigh and area residents, typically performs a wide range of music, from film and classical favourites to rock, pop and musical theatre and therefore attract a wide range of players and audiences.
The Stand Sure Orchestra & Choirs are looking for trumpet and cornet players to join them for their Christmas concert, Christmas Crackers 3, at Hatherleigh Community Centre on Saturday, December 19.
This year’s festive programme continues the tradition of featuring well-known music and includes the entire score from ‘The Snowman’, ‘A Mad Russian’s Christmas’, ‘The Muppets’ and plenty of Christmas favourites including Chris De Burgh, Elton John, Leona Lewis and a few surprises.
Chris Anderson, Stand Sure musical director, said: “Christmas music really comes alive with a good brass section, so we’d love to hear from trumpet or cornet players who fancy joining us. You don’t have to commit to becoming a permanent member because guest players are very welcome.”
The orchestra begins rehearsals for ‘Christmas Crackers 3 ‘ on Wednesday, October 28, meeting from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Hatherleigh Community Centre.
Guest players are very welcome to attend as many Wednesday rehearsals as they wish. No one is required to attend any of the rehearsals. But players do need to be available for the ‘big rehearsal’ on Sunday, December 13, and of course, the concert itself. Music and rehearsal materials are provided in advance. New players should be comfortable reading music, but there no one is required to attend an audition.
