A NEW-look play park in Gunnislake?s Woodland Way could be in the pipeline, following a successful fun day held in the area last week. Residents from the estate had the chance to give their views on a proposed play park makeover during the fun day last Wednesday. Caradon District Council plans to submit a bid at the beginning of September for Lottery funding approaching £100,000 to revamp the estate?s play park, and four different schemes providing a mix of adventure and traditional play equipment were on show at the fun day. Cllr Margaret Allen, Caradon?s local environment portfolio holder, said the council had been discussing ways of improving the estate with local residents, and an upgraded play park was seen as a priority. ?We wanted the children and young people of Woodland Way to tell us which of the schemes they like best before the bid was made for Lottery funding,? she said. As well as giving people a say in the final design for the play park, the fun day on the green in front of the play park included arts and crafts, a bouncy castle and refreshments. Brian Runnells, Caradon?s corporate asset and procurement manager, said the council had carried out a review of children?s play sites in the council?s district and the Woodland Way one had been given ?the highest priority?. A spokesperson for Caradon Council said the event had been ?very well attended? and many people had put forward ideas. During the day, children and parents of those too young to give a view chose their favourite play park schemes. The two more modern designs of the four came out top. These were more hi-tech, but contained a good combination of equipment for under fives and five to ten year olds, the two sections being kept separate. She said parents of older children queried whether facilities for them could be installed at Foster?s Field, which was already a recreational field for public use ? this is being investigated but no plans have been made as yet. At last week?s Calstock Parish Council meeting Police Community Support Officer Nicole Garcia said new swings and safety flooring were already installed in the Woodland Way park. PCSO Garcia added that the play park was now ?being owned? by residents and parents were speaking to the older children to discourage them from using equipment for younger users. l PCSO Garcia also said the sports project run by the police for children from Gunnislake and Calstock during the holidays had been successful and the children had had ?a fabulous time?. Some attending the dance studio in Gunnislake as part of the project had said they wanted to continue attending.
