CALLINGTON Community College has recently gained the highest level of an award that accredits the work of student councils in schools.
The college's student council recently undertook its assessment for the regional PADL Award (Promoting Active Democracy Loudly).
The student assessors were in the college for a day, interviewing the student council and a number of student representatives.
Members of groups such as the international inspirations group, the house student ambassadors, the teaching and learning group, the young promoters and the year representatives spoke about their participation in these groups and the work they have undertaken over the year.
The assessors also interviewed the principal, Gary Lobbett, and Debs Kemp, assistant head in charge of developing student leadership and engagement, as well as a number of students around the college to gather further evidence of the work being done by the student council and other groups.
After the interviews, the assessors awarded the student council the highest level of the award — platinum with honours.
A spokesperson for the school said: 'This is a huge achievement for all the students at Callington who have undertaken leadership roles within the college.'
