A BLUE plaque in memorry of former poet laureate Ted Hughes will be unveiled by his wife, Carol, in North Tawton on Thursday April 28.
Ted Hughes was an English poet and children's writer, often ranked as one of the great poets of the last century. He was poet laureate from 1984 until his death in 1998.
Born in Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire, Hughes moved to North Tawton in 1961 with his first wife and fellow poet Sylvia Plath, and their daughter, Frieda. Their son, Nicholas, was born the following year.
There will be an exhibition relating to Hughes' life and work in the town hall from 2pm to 2.30pm, then from 2.40pm to 3.45pm. Refreshments will be available.
The unveiling ceremony will take place at 14a The Square at 2.30pm.
