PLANS to give Callington a facelift have been unveiled by Callington Town Forum in a new vision for boosting the fortunes of the town.

The not-for-profit organisation is proposing to pay half the cost of cleaning shopfronts and businesses to make the town centre more inviting for shoppers.

It also wants to clean the murals in the centre of town and repair those which have fallen into a state of disrepair.

This will be followed by a community clean up spearheaded in time for MayFest in the town next year.

The ideas are contained in a document released by the forum last week which sets out a number of ideas for giving the town a boost.

‘Callington Fore Street is currently struggling in the same way as many other high streets around the country.

‘Footfall is down which makes life difficult for many of the traders in the town,’ writes the forum.

‘The lack of footfall also makes it difficult for the landlord of properties to let their premises and to justify investment in them. As a result a good number of town centre properties are looking tired and uninviting.

‘We want to do our bit to encourage those landlords that have properties that would benefit from professional cleaning to action a clean up. Our approach is to broker a deal with match funding provided towards the clean up costs.’
